“Mentors, Inc. is known for its dedication and commitment to making college a reality for youth in DC.  My mentor has been more than a role model to me; he has been a family member always looking out for my best interests.  I know that Mentors, Inc. will never give up on me, never judge me and most importantly, never deny me possibilities.”

Why Mentoring?
Mentoring is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your community!

  • Research tells us that mentoring can have a positive impact on the lives of young people, including significant reductions in school absence; better school attitudes and behavior; less drug and alcohol use (especially among minority youth)  and less likelihood of committing crimes.
  •    A 2006 study on high school dropouts (link below) found that one of the most important improvements high schools can make to decrease drop-out rates is to provide students with adult advocates who offer support and coordinate their needs.
  • Yes, mentoring relationships positively change the lives of the youth involved.  However, the adult mentors also benefit!  Find out more at the National Mentoring Partnership/MENTOR website.
